What is the Raven of Iskandar series?  The very first book is:  Raven:  The Call from Central.  The central premise is that 200 plus years in the future, the 3d shooter Unreal Tournament 2004 has become the major sport where simulation allows the player to almost physically enter the Tournament.  How this simulation technology really works is not fully explained but the interface is so good that the line between physical reality and simulation is blurred in the minds of the players and the fans.
